A Brief History
The Ballincollig Concert Band is a community based venture housed in Colaiste Choilm. The Band has been in existence for 18 years and has grown from a small community band to a full music teaching scheme with approximately 150 students. We currently have three bands, the Junior Band conducted by Susan O Connell, the Intermediate Band conducted by Maria Mulcahy and the Concert Band conducted by Eoin Nash. There are Pre-instrumental [Twinkle Tunes] classes available for children aged 4-7, recorder classes for children aged 7-10, and individual lessons both through the Cork County VEC and through the Band itself.
This vision for a Band system was conceived by John O Connor, founder conductor and organiser. He built up the band for 15 years originally teaching each member himself, and now, many of his students who came up through the band system teach here under the VEC and privately through the Band system. Some former members of the band have gone on to study abroad in Leeds, London and Manchester. Others play professionally in a wide range of areas, such as the Band of the Defense Forces and National Concert Orchestra of Ireland.
The Ballincollig Concert Band are multiple prizewinners in both National and International Competitions, including first place in the Senior Section of the National Band Championships of Ireland in 2004.
As a community based band, the Ballincollig Concert Band performs regularly in Ballincollig - turning on of the lights at Christmas, at the opening of the new playground and most recently at the Belle of Ballincollig Festival.

Practise Times
The Senior Concert Band rehearse on Sundays 10.30am-1.00pm
The Intermediate Band rehearse on Wednesdays 4.15pm – 5.45pm
The Junior Band rehearse on Mondays 5pm-6pm
