Maria Mulcahy, a native of Cork, began her musical career at the age of 9 studying flute in the Cork School of Music. She then continued her tuition in Ballincollig with the VEC. Entering the Cork School of Music’s Degree program in 1999, she graduating with a first class honours in 2002 and subsequently received her MA in 2004. She is a first prizewinner in Feis Maitiu and Feis Cheoil. Maria has played with various ensembles including the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland and the Irish Youth Wind Ensemble and has participated in various flute courses and masterclasses both here and abroad. These include masterclasses with Sir James Galway in Italy. Maria now teaches full time with the County Cork School of Music, lectures in the Cork School of Music and is active as a freelance musician in Cork. She also plays with professional Flute Quartet, ‘Hifilutin’ and is a founder member of the Cork Flute Society.
